Wooden Walls of the Giant Forest

Standing in the silent strength of the Giant Forest.  These trees have done well this year, being watered deeply by a record-breaking winter with the most snow the Southern Sierra has seen in decades.  I feel wonderfully blessed to be able to walk in the company of these great trees which have stood many tests of time.  Photo captured by me in June 2023.

Purisima Creek Redwoods

I hope you guys don't mind another redwood shot...

This was at Purisima Creek Redwoods Open Space Preserve near Half Moon Bay, California. Just 30 minutes before taking this shot, I had been at the site of some of the largest waves in the world, the Mavericks.

A short drive up the road led to this park. I never cease to be amazed at the sheer diversity of environs in California.

Redwood Forest

Redwood Regional Park, originally uploaded by ParsecTraveller.

Another photo from today's visit to Redwood Regional Park. This park is just minutes from Oakland, and a short drive from the inland East Bay.

It was 98 degrees inland today; at Redwood, it was 83. Talk about relief from the heat!

Spring is Around the Corner...

Its amazing how short (or long) the winters can be in Northern California. Its mid February, and many trees are blooming, including at least two different types of magnolia. Not only are trees blooming, but some are leafing out. The California buckeye trees, (photo on right), had their buds swell about two weeks ago, and now new leaves are emerging fast. My banana plant has woken up because of our recent warm weather and is now starting to grow. My California pipevines are showing signs of growth, and so is my pygmy date palm.

It looks like spring is early in 2007...I hope.

Hong Kong Orchid Tree

This specimen isn't in Hong Kong though, but rather the Quail Botanical Gardens in San Diego.

In The Shadow of Giants

These huge redwoods are awe-inspiring.
